Before we start building, there is a small amount of prep.
The good news is that you probably already have most of it.
And it is a one-time setup, not a habit you have to keep up.
Which apps do I need?
Three, and all of them are free.
WhatsApp Business, for your work lane.
WhatsApp, the regular one, for your everyday lane.
Signal, for your close people.
Install whichever of these you are missing from the Play Store or the App Store.
They will all sit on the same phone without fighting each other.
Which numbers do I use?
Two numbers is the simplest setup, and it is the one I would start with.
Your business number goes on WhatsApp Business.
Your personal number stays on regular WhatsApp, which becomes your everyday lane for deliveries, OTPs and shops.
Signal then runs on that same personal number, and that is where your close people move to.
So one number does two very different jobs, and the apps keep them apart.
Keep both numbers handy before you begin, along with the phones or SIMs that receive their OTPs.
Do I need a third number?
Only if you want maximum separation.
The optional version is a cheap second SIM or eSIM as a dedicated junk line.
That becomes the number you hand out for deliveries, forms and shop billing counters.
Your real number then stays purely for Signal and close friends.
It is a nice upgrade, and it is completely optional.
Start simple with two numbers, because you can always add the third later.
How long will this take?
About thirty minutes, once.
That is the whole cost of the system.
You will spend a few minutes installing, a few minutes registering numbers, and the rest setting up your business profile.
Nothing here is risky, and nothing gets deleted.
Your existing chats stay where they are while you build the lanes around them.
So get the three apps installed and your numbers ready.
Charge the phone, sit somewhere with decent Wi-Fi, and keep the SIM that receives your business OTP in reach.
In the next post, we build Lane 1: WhatsApp Business.
Things to Remember
- Install WhatsApp Business, WhatsApp and Signal โ all free.
- Keep your business number and personal number handy for OTPs.
- Start with two numbers; the junk SIM is optional and can come later.
- Set aside about thirty minutes, once, and do it in one sitting.
- Do not delete anything yet โ build the lanes first.
