Why Gmail Says Storage Full When You Download Nothing

The message is misleading, and the reason catches almost everyone.

Google gives you 15 GB free.

But Gmail, Drive and Photos all share that same 15 GB between them.

So a pile of holiday photos can literally stop your email from working.

Nothing is broken, and there is no fault to report.

One app simply ate the space another one needed.

Where does the 15 GB usually go?

Photos are almost always the biggest.

Switch the quality to "Storage Saver" first.

Then delete the duplicates, the screenshots and the blurry shots you would never look at again.

Ten near-identical photos of the same sunset are ten times the space.

Drive is usually next, holding old exports, downloads and phone backups you forgot existed.

Gmail is third, and it is normally years of giant attachments.

Search larger:10M in Gmail to find the worst offenders in seconds.

Open one.google.com/storage.

It shows exactly what is eating your space, biggest first.

That page saves you from guessing, and guessing is why most cleanups fail.

Clear the top offenders in each app, in that order.

Then empty Trash in Gmail, Drive and Photos.

Deleted items still count against your 15 GB for 30 days.

This is the step people skip, and then they wonder why the number never moved.

Only after you have genuinely cleaned up.

A first pass almost always turns up more junk than you expected.

Clearing that out is often enough to keep you going a good while longer.

If you have cleared it out and still need room, Google One is around 130 rupees a month for 100 GB.

That is far cheaper than losing your photos.

But try cleaning first, because you may not need it at all.
